What I learned in August

I have read on occasion a blog by Emily Freeman who has a serious of "What I have learned" blog posts.  Her latest - What I have learned in August.  I thought I would join in! 

Here are a few things I have learned!  

1. How nice it is to have days where you are home ALL DAY LONG.  This summer was busy.  And it included a lot of being out..  I think it was August before we had a day where we didn't have to go anywhere.  And ya'll..  it was glorious!  I'm a home body.  Asher is a home body.  Hannah.. - not so much.  It's a balance, but I long for days of just being home.  Who is with me? 

2. I'm not a runner, swimmer or biker..  unless it's for fun.  My husband on the other hand..  all about the training and the challenge and the competition.  He participated in a triathlon in mid August.  The swim wasn't bad.  I didn't see the hills that were a part of the bike course, but the run - those hills..  no thank you!  People looked like they were going to die.  At least I would have died.  In theory -I'd love to see myself as a super athlete doing these races.  Reality...  I'm SOOO not there.


3. Summer is not summer until you are at the Ocean.  NJ Shore to be specific.  We finally got to the beach  a week before school started.  And being at the Ocean and on the boardwalk made me long for school to never start back!

    You make me miss the ocean. We didn't make it this summer. I really don't feel like summer is over until we visit the beach. ;)

Hello November, I'm coming for you!!

So, I think October won.  October definitely had me beat.  Worn out and tired, I can feel the cold weather blah's coming on and October was not productive.  I feel like I trudged through last month in a fog and it's time to get a hold of things and pull back out of it.  So, November here I come and I plan to win.   For Starters, November means getting back  to the Y and exercising.  I had glorious plans of getting into shape, losing some added pounds, pouding the pavement..  I mean, both my kids are in school ALL day now.. God knew we needed her.

It's this sweet girls birthday today.  She turns 6.  I remember like it was yesterday..  finding out I was pregnant with her.  Asher was a mere 5 months old.  5 months ya'll.  And I don't think he had slept yet..  well, maybe for only 20 minutes.  He was not a sleeper.  He was a wide awake, curious, alert, round baby.  Which meant Momma had not slept for 5 months either.  I was tired.  I remember standing in our kitchen behind the counter, prepping for dinner when John walked in.  I'm pregnant, I told him.  Again.  We'll have another newborn due the end of October.  And I cried.  I cried, because sometimes finding out you are having a baby is overwhelming.  And I was tired.  And I thought I would never get to sleep again.  EVER.  And how was I supposed to mother and care for another little person who might keep me up all night too.  How?   Oh, HOW, I thank Go...
