ROOTED in Christ

This past summer, I began rethinking our youth Sunday school program.  We were in need of something different, something to peak students interests and commitment again.  Something to get our leaders and teachers excited about.  And we came up with a new name, focus and enthusiasm for studying God's word in a variety of ways.

Rooted
An opportunity for middle school and high school students to become ROOTED in their faith through participation in; Service, Faith Journaling, Technology Fun, Music & Drama and Small Groups for guys and girls.

Last week we began with our Service Sunday and we headed down to The Paris Foundation in Elkton Maryland to hand out blankets to folks in that community struggling with homelessness and financial burdens among other things.  I'm so excited that we are going to be more intentional about getting our students out of the building to 'BE' the church in some very tangible ways.  Our next Service Sunday falls on the weekend that we plan on being a part of The Philly Project.  God is working out those details for us!

This Sunday is a Faith Journaling Sunday.  I'm excited about this too.  Time to be intentional about meditating on Scripture and time to be creative in finding ways to make those passages meaningful to us personally.  This week we will be meditating on and leaning into Scripture that reminds us of who we are as a person who is IN CHRIST.  A reminder that we ALL need on a daily basis.  It is so easy to get so bogged down and discouraged by all that the world tells us we are...  those voices that whisper in our ear that we aren't good enough, that we aren't really loved, that we can't do it (whatever "it" is), that we fail and mess up and on and on and on those messages go.  And you know what...  they stink.  Those messages..  they stink.  And they are lies.  Great big lies whispered to us by the enemy.  But here's the thing:  Enemy - you are wrong.  So very wrong.  And we aren't listening anymore to your lies.  And I want my youth to hear truth, not lies.  I want them to stomp out the lies that Satan tells them.  And I want them, and me and us and you ..  to hear and to rest in the truth of who we are as a people of God.  Read Scripture..  Satan's lies aren't there.  God's truth's of love and mercy and redemption.. that is.  That is who we are.  Here the truth and rejoice.
